Green Maple and Waterfall by Maruyama Ōkyo




Maruyama Ōkyo (1733-1795) drew some pictures with the theme of waterfalls. Among them, Green Maple and Waterfall is the work that makes you feel the coolest. Green maple leaves add to the coolness. This picture has a unique space in the screen. When you see the painting, you look up at the maple, then looks at the waterfall in front, and looks down on the rocks and waves. There are three viewpoints. The composition represents the passage of time that the waterfalls vertically, hits the rock, and turn into splashes.
