Fuwa Bansaku (1578-1595) was an existed person who served under Toyotomi Hidetsugu, but this samurai is a creative hero based on him.
A silhouetted monster is emerging from the wall of an old temple that is in danger of collapsing. This monster is an unidentified creature, and it is riding on Banzaku’s umbrella. Yoshitoshi used only shades of black ink to depict the monster, giving it an uncanny and eerie appearance. Banzaku is glaring at this frightening creature.
